las vegas automotive photography – BMW E36 M3

John Afravi here. The Car Photographers Photographer. This is actually my own personal car. It’s a 1999 BMW E36 M3 in Dakar Gelb II. We usually get clear skies in Las Vegas, but on this day we had some massive ominous clouds roll in. I looked out towards the mountains and in a split second I made the decision to go out and shoot! I grabbed my 3 speedlights, light stands, Pixel King Triggers, my Canon 60D and went out to shoot!. Usually I like to plan my shoots, but I decided to wing this one and just let my creativity run.

It was extremely windy during the shoot! So windy in fact that one of my speedlights was thrown to the ground. Luckily the light stand took the brunt of the force and none was on the speedlight. WHEW! I had to move quick. I didn’t want to be hanging around under those large power lines right before a thunder storm. Definitely a bad combo!

Next I drove to downtown Las Vegas and found a nice location to shoot. This time the danger wasn’t from the thunder storm, but more from the sketchy location. Having all that gear out there in the open was definitely something I wouldn’t have recommended to anyone! I was there for about 45 minutes from setup to tear down. Shooting as quick as I could, all while watching my back. Luckily, I escaped unscathed. I think the risk definitely paid off! Enjoy!
