Here we have two Nissan 350Z’s. We took them out to the Las Vegas Desert to shoot them. These cars belong to Blaine (Silver Nissan 350Z) and Token (White Nissan 350Z). During the shoot I shot these mainly with natural light. Partly because at the time I wasn’t very versatile with lighting a car via strobes, and the fact that the natural light worked really well here. Although when the sun finally set I did break out my speedlights to light Blaine’s car for a few photos. It was actually my very first time lighting a car via strobes.
I also experimented with my Sigma 8-16mm lens. It’s a very specialized lens and needs to be used in a certain way when shooting automotive photography. It’s not a fisheye lens, but there is still some distortion that can make or break a photo. Shooting too close to the car with this lens will completely ruin the look of the car. So using this lens in a landscape shot works best. As you can see with the really wide shots, I positioned the cars in a way that it wouldn’t distort them.
This was a great shoot. Definitely a learning experience and I have to say, one that got me hooked into using strobes for my photo shoots today! Enjoy!
